Why Do Babies Cross Their Eyes?

Newborn babies do not have complete control over their bodies. You may have noticed that your baby moves their hands or arms involuntarily or cannot hold their head upright. Should you go to a doctor if your 2-month-old baby is squinting?

The flat nose seen in many babies can cause the illusion that the eyes are close to each other. At the same time, due to the shape of the eyelids, the eyes may be perceived as being far or close from each other. If you suspect that your baby has strabismus, we recommend that you first rule out the possibility of pseudostrabismus .
Diagnosing Babies with Strabismus
When you say that your baby’s eyes are crossed, your doctor may use a test called Hirschberg if he deems it necessary. In this test, which is harmless to the baby, the doctor shines light into the child’s eyes with the help of a flashlight. Then, strabismus is diagnosed in babies by examining at which point this light reflects in the eye .
It would be best if you try not to skip the eye examination until your baby is one year old and to closely examine the baby’s eye development. If there is any problem in the child’s eyes , such as a 2-month-old baby squinting, it can be stopped and cured before it progresses further with early diagnosis.
